Alan Hext

About:

Alan Hext is a Certified Zero Balancer and Traditional Acupuncturist practising in Dorset. He began studying Zero Balancing with Dr Fritz Ferderick Smith in 1983. Alan regularly studied Fritz in the UK and USA, assisting him and being part of the team which organised his annual UK workshops.

He was trained to teach ZB at the first ZB Teacher Programme Fritz held in the late 1980s. Alan helped spread ZB in the UK, establishing the original professional Association which gained Friz’s permission to hold a ZB Certification Programme and ZB Teacher Trainings.

Alan continues to teach Zero Balancing internationally from Spain to Scotland, Japan to Jamaica. He has also developed and taught the Zero Balancing Skills workshops: ‘The Roots of Zero Balancing in the Chinese Traditions’, ‘Within the Interface’, ‘The Structure of Energy’ and ‘Elemental ZB’.

He taught at BA and MA degree level at the College of Traditional Acupuncture where Fritz Smith also trained. Alan graduated in 1979, later receiving his Bachelor and Masters of Acupuncture degrees from Professor JR Worsley. He is a member of the British Acupuncture Council, the largest body of professional acupuncturists in Britain. In 2015 he gave a presentation of ZB to an international conference on the Transmission of Chinese medicine to the West, at Yunnan University in China.

Zero Balancing is a valuable therapeutic skill which can be used as a bodywork in its own right and is also an ideal complement to Traditional Acupuncture treatment. ZB can also be recognised as being part of the way of ‘Nourishing Life’ (Yang Sheng in Chinese). These also include a range of practices such as Qi Gong, Taiji Quan and meditation. They all generate a living connection between Heaven and Earth, cultivate good alignment and nurture a joy of wellbeing.

Alan is author of ‘The Structural Energetics of Zero Balancing Bodywork, published by Singing Dragon in 2020.
